Dr. Martin Riegl is an assistant professor and academic coordinator of the Geopolitical Studies program at the Institute of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. Martin has extensive experience in geopolitics and defence policy. He lectures in the field of geopolitics and political geography and is professionally interested in the process of political fragmentation (governmental and secessionist conflicts), geopolitics of international recognition, the global transformation of power, and geopolitics of regions and related topics. He is a (co)author of several publications in this field. In 2011, he established the annual Geopolitical Conference (Strategic and Geopolitical Issue in the Contemporary World) organized by Geopolitical Studies Research Centre. He also serves as an advisor to the Defence Policy and Strategy Division of the Czech Ministry of Defence.
